Teacher Lynn Perron's (back row left side) grades five and six students, at Noble Central School in Nobleford, Alberta, were busy learning to knit and crochet when school started in the fall of 1998. Only two of the 65 students in the school had done this kind of work previously. They found it is something they will enjoy doing the rest of their lives.
One Grade 5 student became so involved she herself made 13 squares. One Grade 6 fellow said he found he would stay up late at night to work on his squares as he found it was addicting. We have heard of groups of students getting together to watch movies and knit after school hours, and said it was the best homework to do. One stitch at a time, they were doing their part to help those without shelter in southern Alberta.
This is just one of the two blankets that they presented to "Blankets For Canada Society" to help the people without shelter keep warm this winter. One blanket will be on display for a while at our new place.
Class Mom, Merry Anne Dase, back row right side, stitched the squares into a blanket as the students started another one. The students had so much fun they got some of their parents and grandparents involved. This is an on going project with them and we understand other grade are joining in the fun.
